Bordeaux and the Rhone (St Albans)

Bordeaux and the Rhone (St Albans)

SORRY - SOLD OUT. Why not try our Bordeaux Tasting in Harpenden on 28th November? Welcome to a tasting of wines from Bordeaux and Rhone - stand by for some blockbuster reds!

Claret, traditional-British for Bordeaux, has been a firm favourite for centuries. The classic reds from villages such as Margaux, Pauillac and St. Emilion are those that are layered, complex and destined to develop over many years. We will explore why this is and focus on the key grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc to understand what makes good Bordeaux great. We will also learn that over half of Bordeaux wine is produced and priced for everyday drinking at affordable prices.

Hertfordshire Wine School is a partner of L'Ecole du Vin in Bordeaux - David is an Accredited Bordeaux Wine Educator.

In the South of France lies the Rhone Valley, where we find the blockbuster Syrah (Shiraz) and its many styles. In addition we find the spicy Grenache, and these two grapes together exist because of the hot climate down here, making more intense and full-bodied wines. We’ll explore classics such as Cotes-du-Rhone and Chateauneuf-du-Pape and compare them to their counterparts from the Norther Rhone.

This wine tasting evening also makes a great Christmas Gift for only £30. And why not also join us two weeks earlier, on 10 October, and enjoy a tasting of wines from two other famous French regions - Burgundy and The Loire Valley.

All tastings include at least seven wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, tutored tasting and use of professional tasting glasses.
