Alsace and SW France versus The New World (Harpenden)
Two-thirds of wine consumed in the UK now comes from New World countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. This is partly thanks to smart marketing and distribution, but also as an inevitable result of big improvements in the quality of wine-making in the Southern Hemisphere. But can the 'new kids on the block' really compete with the best that France has to offer?
Join us on this special tasting as we pitch wines from Alsace and South-West France against those from Australia, Chile and Argentina. We'll try eight different wines including Malbec, Pinot Gris and Riesling. We'll also look at the influence of soil, climate and 'terroir'.
All wines are sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them. No previous experience is necessary and full tasting notes, tutored tasting and use of professional tasting glasses is included. This one-evening tasting also makes a great Christmas gift idea for just £27.50
