Burgundy and The Rhone (St Albans)
Welcome to a tasting of wines from Burgundy and the Rhone Valley.
The Rhone Valley really comprises two distinct regions with the North specialising in red wines, made from the Syrah grape variety, in appellations such as Saint Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The larger Southern Rhone includes Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueras, Gigondas and Rasteau, where the emphasis is on classic blends of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.
Burgundy, immediately to the north of the Rhone, is a wine region steeped in tradition and home to classic grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Gamay and the expressive Pinot Noir. Within the undulating hills of Côte d’Or, from villages such as Gevrey-Chambertin and Puligny-Montrachet, we find the some of the world's most famous wines. We will also explore the up-and-coming Côte Chalonnaise, the delicate wines from the Maconnais and the fruit-driven and simple wines from Beaujolais. A delightful region to taste your way through.
This wine tasting evening also makes a great Gift idea for only £30 (perfect as a Birthday or other present). And why not book a second evening on Thursday 19 November, when we go back to France for a look at Bordeaux and the Loire?
All tastings include at least seven wines, sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, tutored tasting and use of professional tasting glasses.
