Bordeaux and the Loire (St Albans)
Welcome to a tasting of wines from Bordeaux and The Loire.
Claret, traditional-British for Bordeaux red wine, has been a firm favourite for centuries. The classic reds from villages such as Margaux, Pauillac and St. Emilion are those that are layered, complex and destined to develop over many years. We will explore why this is and focus on the key grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc to understand what makes Bordeaux so revered. We will also learn that over half of Bordeaux wine is produced and priced for everyday drinking at affordable prices.
Hertfordshire Wine School is a partner of L'Ecole du Vin in Bordeaux - David is an Accredited Bordeaux Wine Educator.
In the North of France lies the beautiful Loire Valley, from where we will taste a selection of styles including dry, 'demi-sec', sweet and sparkling wines. The grape varieties here include Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc from famous appellations such as Vouvray, Sancerre and Chinon.
This wine tasting evening also makes a great Gift for only £30. And why not also join us a week earlier, on 14 January, and enjoy a tasting of wines from two other famous French regions - Burgundy and The Rhone Valley?
All tastings include at least seven wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, tutored tasting and use of professional tasting glasses.
