World of Wine South Africa and Germany (St Albans)

World of Wine South Africa and Germany (St Albans)

Join us for a Wonderful World of Wine tasting from South Africa and Germany.

For almost a century South Africa was dominated by the KWV cooperative, producing large volumes of, often, very average wine. The end of Apartheid in 1990, and the eventual privatisation of the wine industry, has allowed diversity to flourish and open up South Africa to new markets and shared expertise. So much so that South Africa is currently the world's most exciting wine-producing nation and the UK imports as much wine from SA as it does from France. Tonight we will try a Bordeaux-style blend, some Chenin Blanc and a fine example of South Africa’s ‘own’ grape Pinotage

Germany is not a 'New World' country but is enjoying a wine renaissance. Gone is the 1970s image of an industry dominated by by Liebfraumilch, Blue Nun and Black Tower - today two-thirds of German wine is produced in a dry style and 30% of output is red. Join us as we taste examples of Riesling and Pinot Noir from famous regions such as Mosel, Rheingau and Pfalz

This wine tasting evening also makes a great gift for only £27.50.

All tastings include at least seven wines, sourced locally so you can find them if you like them, tasting notes, a tutored presentation and use of professional ISO tasting glasses.
