4 Week 'Old World' Wine Course (St Albans)
Did you know that, despite competition from the New World, 50% of the world's wine is still produced, collectively, by three countries - France, Italy and Spain? This four-week ‘Old World' Wine Course’ is designed as a practical introduction to the wines of the the traditional European wine-producing countries. Under siege from their Southern Hemisphere rivals, find out how they have responded with the introduction of clearer labelling, improved marketing and a move to more accessible wine styles. And, it's not just about Rioja, Chianti and Bordeaux - we will taste these and more, including wines from The Rhone Valley, The Loire Valley, Rias Baixas, Piedmont and Puglia.
This course is designed for people who enjoy wine and would like to learn more about it in a fun and relaxed environment. You need no previous experience – the emphasis is on learning by tasting different varieties of wine with friendly people. It is also a great way to meet new friends who share your enjoyment of wine. The course takes place over four Thursday evenings starting in November at our venue in St Albans:
- Thursday 5 November - The Wines of Italy (including Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Chianti, Amarone and Primitivo)
- Thursday 12 November - France I (Burgundy and the Rhone Valley)
- Thursday 19 November - France II (Bordeaux and The Loire)
- Thursday 26 November - Spain and Portugal Chile (Rioja, Albarino, Port and Sherry)
All in all, a fantastic chance to taste around 30 wines and discover those you like best. This course requires no previous wine tasting experience as we will also learn how to taste wine like a professional, find out how wine is made and understand wine labels and laws. There is no additional evening charge on this course. Great value - the cost of the course works out at just £27.50 per evening, which represents a saving of £10 (compared to paying for each evening separately).
This course also makes a great Gift Voucher idea for just £110 for birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions. And, if you fancy warming-up on New World wines, why not sign-up for the complete eight-week course, which starts on 1 October, for an 'all-in' total of just £199. All tasting evenings include at least seven wines, sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, notes and other materials, a tutored tasting and use of professional ISO tasting glasses. Please also refer to our 'Terms & Conditions' when booking - if you have to miss a week of the course, if you are able to provide at least seven days notice of cancellation then you will be able to repeat that session on a future occasion.
