Posh v Plonk (Harpenden)
Can you tell the difference between Posh and Plonk? If so, which one do you prefer? And why? The average price paid for a bottle of wine in the UK is just over £5 and, yet, most of that £5 covers the cost of duty, VAT, shipping, bottling and marketing. If you are prepared to trade-up and spend £10 - £20 on a bottle, then you will be getting a lot more actual wine for your money. But, is it worth it and what other factors come into play to determine the retail price of a bottle of wine?
Join us on this fascinating evening, when we will try eight different wines, all tasted 'blind'. We will taste the wines in pairs - in each case, a decent, but lower value wine alongside a more expensive example from the same region or grape variety. Is it worth paying more or is it all hype? Can we find quality at lower price points and is personal preference the most important differentiator? You be the judge!
This tasting includes eight wines, sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, tasting notes, tutored tasting and use of professional tasting glasses. No previous wine tasting experience is necessary and it also makes a great gift idea for £30 for birthdays and other occasions.
